Foundation of Success

Sage Day Spa is founded on the belief that the way we think about things determines how we show up and the results that we can expect from a situation. Just think of a time when you had to go somewhere and you just knew it was not going to be great, like a party, and you’re not excited about going, you drag your feet and mutter to yourself about how it’s going to be lame, and nobody is going to talk to you anyway, and you show up late and nobody talks to you. But when you’re excited about something and you can’t wait, the way you approach that is very different right? Now, this is just a basic thought-behavior example but the point remains; the way we think determines how we show up and the outcome we can expect.

I can’t say how many times I’ve been told to just skip a modality or an area of the body if I did not feel confident about it because the client can tell. I think that this has a lot to do with a simple mind body connection, like the other examples and shows that we can’t act differently than how we think, however, I also believe that there is a deeper energetic principle at work here. It is impossible to have an emotion without a thought. Try to be angry without having any thoughts in your head and you can’t do it. But, bring up the right memory and within seconds, blood pressure is rising, heart rate is increasing, bad words are coming faster than you knew you had them. So then, our thoughts determine the emotions we are feeling, and those feelings, if we are aware enough to perceive them, have an energetic impact on the people and things around us. When someone is having a bad day and they walk into a room, you can tell and just feel like you need to give them space, right? I’m sure we’ve all experienced that.

What does that mean for us? What thoughts are you having about you and your work, your schedule, and your clients, and what emotions are following? Do you think that you would feel differently working at McDonalds than The George (google it and just look at the photos)? Would you feel different sleeping in a Motel 6 than the Aman in New York (again, google it and just look at the photos)? I think the answer is a resounding yes, you would. Like it or not, you would definitely feel different showing up to one vs the other. Are you showing up to Sage Day Spa like a motel 6 or an Aman? It makes a difference. Are you answering the phones and taking client orders like a McDonalds, or the George? It makes a difference. When you look at your schedule are you filled with stress and worry because you aren’t booked as much as you’d like, do you criticize yourself? When you get booked for an appointment do you say, oh no I hope this goes ok, or do you show up confidently, knowing that what you have to offer is the very best?

All of this makes a difference in not only how we show up, but also in what we tend to experience in our lives. Without going too deep into anything philosophical or metaphysical, the energy that we push out, has a way of coming back to us. Some call it attraction, others call it karma or frequency. Jesus taught “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over… For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Call it what you will, it is in force all around us. Much like gravity; I’ll still hit the ground if I jump off a roof no matter how fully I don’t believe in gravity, so I should just operate where gravity keeps me safe and grounded.

Now for the homework; for the next week be aware of the thoughts that you are having about work as you come in, when you look at the schedule, see a certain service, pay attention to the thoughts you are having and write them down. It’s important to be aware of things, so just do this exercise for a couple days and see what your thinking about and the emotions that come with those thoughts. Then, review what you’ve written down and ask yourself, “if this were to draw similar experiences to me, would I want to keep thinking this way, or would I like to think something different? Is what I’m thinking bringing McDonalds experiences, or The George experiences?”
